"The ranks are thinner now, the war is winding down; and while there are still battles to fight - charges, counter charges, and much bloodshed and honor to be gained - it is near the end. The South still had the èlan and determination to press an attack. This time, their spirit is shown in a little-known skirmish which involved the Mississippi Marine Brigade at Lake Chicot, Arkansas, June, 1864. Although the outcome was ordained, there were those who confidently believed that - if any could survive - these would be the ones to do so. Much effort was taken to portray men of strong character.

Among other things, this panel was selected as one of the best paintings for the year of 1990 by the Society of Illustrators."
